Basketball Backboard Glass

Basketball backboard glass tends to be quite thick, at around half an inch or just under 13mm. A regulation basketball backboard is 72 inches wide and 42 inches high (that’s 6 feet by 3.5 feet). At half an inch thick, a sheet of tempered glass with these dimensions is quite heavy; significantly heavier than acrylic of the same size. This weight is actually a good thing in basketball applications, as it means the backboard is less likely to move when impacted by a ball or a player. Too much movement can make for a weak bounce and can interfere with player accuracy.
